Respect Wears Many Hats

Text Books and Life Skills

As a self-published author, this is one of my favorite books! I’ll keep you posted on which one is my favorite book down the line. This book is full of fun colors and allows a child to use their imagination as well as introduce them to members of the community. Respect is a difficult subject matter today, I mean with the lack of it on many levels. This of course is my opinion, but watch the news, read the paper, listen to the radio or walk out your front door. Not all people or children are disrespectful, however, there seems to be quite a few.

While I was teaching, I always liked to involve the children in different activities and introduce them to new things. The fun thing about this book is that at the end of the story is Respectful Rabbit, cut this character out, put felt on the back of it to use on a felt board. Then, there are the clothes and materials that each member of the community uses, cut them out and put felt on them, too, or simply use the old fashioned way with the tabs attached. Use like a cut-out display. The book mentions the following members of a community:

  1. Policemen
  2. Firemen
  3. Crossing Guard
  4. Doctor and Nurse
  5. Teacher
  6. Astronaut
  7. Chef
  8. Artist
  9. Coach
  10. Mailman
  11. Tradesmen
  12. and of course our Armed Forces, Air Force, Arm, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard

What is the old cliché’, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin, I feel these words are powerful and so very true to form.

This weekend I am an exhibitor at the AuthorFest 2017 in Round Lake at the Civic Center. I’ll be a children’s author reading this book and then making respectful listening ears with the kids who are attending. Stop by to say hello if you get the chance. For many children it’s really a thrill to meet an author, there will be so many there to talk with!

At one time, a local Preschool received a grant from Target and they brought in Respectful Rabbit where I read the story, did an activity and the children got to meet members of the community. Involve me and I learn. They got to meet a variety of Community Servants as well as check out the vehicles they drive. This was a wonderful opportunity to Show and Tell if you will.

Respectful Rabbit also has a youtube video which you might find beneficial.
