Tune Into Good Character

Text Books and Life Skills

Once upon a time, there were Joni and Joe, they raised Joey, Josh and Jennifer and are now married for over 36 years. Like most couples they have endured the good, the bad and the ugly. But, they have also written a children’s book together! TUNE INTO GOOD CHARACTER. Joe is my biggest fan, supporter and go to guy when I’m in a crunch, for example, a volunteer may cancel, Joe is the first one to dress in the costume! My family has been so supportive through the years in helping to make this organization grow, and the Characters of Character would be lost with out them.

The story references all of the characters:

  • Behavior Bear
  • Do’er Duck
  • Friendship Frog
  • Healthy Hippo
  • Manners Monkey
  • Respectful Rabbit
  • Responsible Rabbit
  • Self-Esteem Elephant
  • Warm-Hearted Walrus

As well as making reference to musical instruments, such as the drums, guitars, horns, cymbols and more. As a parent, educator and a member of society, I feel that it is our responsibility to teach a child, to show them new things, to listen to them and to encourage them. Not every child learns the same way and so many times you need to be creative and figure out how a child is going to understand and internalize the subject you are working on.

Arts are a great way to engage a child. When I worked in a BD/LD classroom, we started the morning on the floor with butcher block paper. Here, the boys would color, paint, draw or write about what was on their minds. We all learned from each other with this, we learned how to communicate, how to express ourselves and how to let our feelings out on paper and sometimes in voice. Not all children flourish in academics, therefore behaviors, attitudes or selfesteem was not at it’s best.

Try bringing in arts into your way to communicate, or try bringing in music, physical activity and lots of imagination so that a child will want to learn and want to grow to be a good person. In this book not only are each of the character traits introduced, and musical instruments referenced, there are added pages for a child to write their own song, their own story or their own drawings. TUNE INTO GOOD CHARACTER was fun to write with my husband, fun to read to children and even available on our website at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and other retailers. As always, we love hearing from you and seeing pictures of activities you do with your own children referencing the characters.

What is the old cliché’, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin, I feel these words are powerful and so very true to form.

When you teach a child, use different methods; meaning use the arts, use literacy, use fine motor, use books, be communicative so they will internalize what the subject matter is and open up discussions with you as well.

These my friends, are words to live by.
