15th Mindful Monday Word-Purpose

First, I believe that we are all here with a purpose in life. While our passions may change in the seasons of our lives, our purpose remains pretty much the same. If your passion is to help people, you might be an educator, leave that profession and go into counseling, you’re still livig your purpose and your passion to help people. When I was growing up I wanted to be either a Nun, I named myself nun Nancy. A teacher or a nurse. I did know that I wanted to have children and be married. Were these all my purpose? I told my dad that I wanted to be a nun, and he had a different outlook! He said to me, “I would like to be a grandpa someday!” I would tease him often about being Nun Nancy. On his 40th birthday my mom gave him a surprise birthday party at our house where we grew up. One of their friends had a nuns habit. So, I dressed in it, walked down the stairs to the party and said, “Good Evening, Father” and I can still see the look on his face, priceless! I wanted to have children one day and knew that being a nun was not my purpose.

While I worked on the Reading Team in an elementary school, a new Principal joined the team.. She had said our school needed some kind of character development program. Well, I showed here my art work which was from a previous school that I had made fun characters for a class of learning differently students. She loved them! We piloted the characters at the school that year. I worked tirelessly making hand made posters for eighteen classrooms to have. I made journals, posters, puppets and such to engage the students in. It was a lot of time and work to do all of this and I had asked the Principal to be compensated for it. What she did was go in for a grant which turned into an award! The Characters of Character earned a National Promising Practice Award through Character Education Partnerships in Washington D.C.

I have found my purpose without a doubt! I’ve been growing into it, becoming a better version of me, learning how to be a better Leader and live my purpose to the fullest. I’m a member of the John Maxwell Team and the Empowered Living Community which all have personal growth workshops, classes, programs for what you’re needing. I need to grow! This community has opened my eyes to my potential, my purpose. And, I am here to say: ‘I AM LIVING MY PURPOSE’ and on days when I feel that I could do more, I’m reminded that I am right where I am supposed to be. On days when I feel that I can’t go on, I am reminded that I can because I am living my purpose. What is my purpose? My purpose is to make a difference in the life of a child. This is what I am doing with my life, using my Ph.d. My Passion, My Heart and My Determination to make a difference. A high school graduate learning daily, each and every day. Purposeful.

What is your purpose?

  1. Reflect on things that you care about

  2. Reflect with what resonates with you

  3. Reflect on your gifts, your talents and your strengths

  4. Reflect on the people you admire

Once you are true to who you are, you will find an inner peace. Find gratitude, volunteer for people and places. Find your people, meaning, people who inspire you, who support you and who bring a sense of hope into your heart and your mind. Have a positive mindset, give yourself credit, if you build it, they will come so to speak. If you can, find a mentor, they have great knowledge and wisdom to pour into you. You’ll discover just who you are and what your purpose is. It’s a journey, enjoy the ride!
