Warm-Hearted Walrus was created by Joni Downey, founder of Characters of Character NFP, Inc., to help children understand, internalize, and portray what it means to be kind. Warm-Hearted Walrus helps children relate to the trait associated with the Character by being a visual (similar to their favorite cartoon character.) They begin to learn about the trait through conversations, activities, books, discussions, and art activities. Once there is an understanding and connection between Warm-Hearted Walrus and the trait of kindness, children will eventually begin to portray what it means to be kind. From there it transitions from mimicking the trait they’ve learned about to understanding and internalizing it so that it becomes second nature to show kindness in all settings. As the child grows older, they continue to develop the trait even after Warm-Hearted Walrus as a visual reinforcement begins to fade out.
Kindness promotes a positive attitude, encouraging others to be happy and feel good about themselves. It also gives someone the ability to help others when they have not stood up for themselves, builds high self-esteem, prevents social issues like bullying, opens someone up to being helped by others, creates better communication and a positive work environment, and can help prevent future crimes by instilling remorse in others for negative behavior.
Warm-Hearted Walrus teaches children to be kind, compassionate, and warmhearted. Warm-Hearted Walrus helps children understand and internalize what being kind truly means and how they can make the world a kinder place.
Being Kind When Traveling
Part of being kind means to be considerate of others and when you are traveling it is important to be aware of your own behaviors.
It doesn’t matter if you are taking a road trip with your family or on a plane with strangers, being aware of your own behaviors and considerate of others is a great way to show kindness!
