International Day of Charity

Today, September 5th has been named International Day of Charity by the United Nations. The world unites to celebrate the power of compassion and selflessness. This day, since 2012 serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can create a chain of positive change. Warm-Hearted Walrus approves! Did you know that Characters of Character also donates to charities? We have donated to a local Food Pantry, Pet Shelter, youth organization and hospital. The hospital donation is where we learned about the need and appreciation of items in need and we created our Superhero activity box to further the donations to other Children’s Hospitals in Illinois, Tennessee and Texas.

So, today is International Day of Charity. Who knew? Do you have a favorite charity to donate to? By supporting a charity you are supporting a mission, a project or a program that is near and dear to the organizations purpose.

Support is different for most charities, however for many of us there are a number of ways that you can support a Charity, here are a few suggestions:

1. A financial donation.

2. A donation from a Wish List.

3. Volunteering.

4. Sharing their work.

5. Sharing their project.

6. Following them on Social Media.

7. Hosting a Fundraiser.

8. Becoming a Sponsor.

9. Ask the organization what their needs are so you can best support a Charity that you believe in.

10. Research your Charity and know where their funding goes to.

If you're thinking about supporting a Charity, please be aware where funding goes. Is it to a program, a project or a person? Know their mission and their purpose. Is it something that you are proud to stand behind? It’s a lot of work being a Charity and as the statement above states:

“Today, September 5th has been named International Day of Charity by the United Nations. The world unites to celebrate the power of compassion and selflessness. This day, since 2012 serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can create a chain of positive change.”

Be the change!
