Let’s talk about teaching respect

who is respectful rabbit

Respectful Rabbit teaches children what it means to show respect to people, places, and things. Respectful Rabbit reminds everyone that respect is earned - and why it’s such an important character trait in our every day lives.

Respectful Rabbit is a Character created and developed by Joni Downey, founder & president of Characters of Character NFP, Inc. The Character is used as a tool to help children understand, internalize, and portray what it means to be respectful.

what is respect

What is respect? How do you teach children what it means to be respectful? Does respect come in different forms?

There are so many different ways to show respect that it would be impossible to list them all. Being respectful means accepting others for who they are, using manners such as saying please or thank you, or picking up after yourself especially if you are in a public setting.

You see, you can show respect to not only people but places and things as well. You respect the earth by disposing of your garbage properly and recycling. You respect your community by making positive choices with your behaviors. You respect yourself by showing kindness and forgiveness.

free respect character building activity

We put together a FREE respect worksheet that you can use in your home, classroom, or community.

It lists a few different examples of what respect is and asks the child or person with the worksheet to list a time that they were respectful. This is a great opportunity to spark some conversations - especially if your child or student has been struggling with what it means to be respectful.
