Polite Poultry | Manners Monkey Thanksgiving Turkey Activity

Manners Monkey teaches children what being polite means and how to display good manners in every situation from home to play, and everywhere in between.

One of nine Characters created and developed by our nonprofit organization, Characters of Character, Manners Monkey is a tool and resource that allows children to understand, recognize, internalize, and eventually portray what it means to have good manners.

We created a free printable that features Manners Monkey as Polite Poultry - the perfect activity to do for Thanksgiving.

What are polite words? What are polite actions? Is being considerate considered being polite? What can children do to help prepare for Thanksgiving? What can they do to help clean up?

thankful for good manners

Being polite is more than just saying, ‘please’ when you ask someone if they could pass the mashed potatoes. Being polite during Thanksgiving also looks like…

  • being considerate of others when making your plate

  • clearing your dishes and offering to help clean up

  • asking what you can bring if you are invited somewhere (this is usually the adults responsibility, but it could be a great opportunity to get your children involved by letting them make a simple dessert to share with others)

  • having table manners (chewing with your mouth closed, saying excuse me, sitting up straight, etc.)

  • wait for everyone to have their plate made and to sit down before eating

  • say thank you to your host (even if the host is the child’s parents)

There are two options in our free download of Polite Poultry. You can print the pre-made Manners Monkey Thanksgiving Turkey and fill in the feathers with words - like please, thank you, etc. You could also fill in the feathers with words of gratitude or names of people the child is thankful for.

The second version includes a print out of the separate pieces that can be cut out, colored, and glued together - a great way to practice motor skills!
