Fall Into Good Behavior | Character Education Bulletin Board

Fall into good behavior! Good behavior is needed all year round, but autumn felt like a good time to reinforce what good behavior might look like in your classroom (or home!)

We may have created a bulletin board idea (that you’ll find if you scroll the bottom of this blog), but this activity can easily be adjusted for a fun at-home conversation starter.

Instead of using the leaves in the free PDF download below, take your children outside to collect leaves that have fallen on the ground. Try to find leaves that are large enough to write on, flat, and with as little damage as possible. Some of your leaves might benefit from being placed in a book for a few hours or overnight so that they can flatten out. You can use your leaves in the same way that we talk about further down with the downloadable file, but first…..

let us introduce our pal, Behavior Bear.

Behavior Bear teaches children that good behavior is a characteristic to portray at home, at school, and at play. Be a role model, use good behavior each and everyday.

You can use Behavior Bear as a tool that allows children to understand, internalize, and eventually portray traits of good behavior. Having our Character associated with the trait makes it easier for children to relate to what lessons are being taught.

Now, the fun part! Creating a space filled with reminders of what good behavior looks like!

You can click the image above or click here to download your free PDF printable.

You can print the cover page to use as the center of your bulletin board. Print the blank leaves on colored paper - or even better, print them on white paper & allow the students to decorate their own leaf as they see fit.

The lined leaf can be used to write down a word or short sentence of what good behavior looks like. This might be a good opportunity to have an open conversation about what the students have recently witnessed - did someone follow the rules? Did someone use their inside voice? Did someone keep their hands to themself in the hallway? Tap into real life examples because that allows the children to better understand what is expected of them.

There are also lined pages, which are a great option to elaborate on good behavior rather than just writing down a single word.

Take your leaves and fill your bulletin board with all the ways that the children protracted or witness good behavior!

If you collected leaves that you found outside you can write down various words that might be a rule or what good behavior looks like (i.e. listening, hands to self, inside voice). You can decorate your fridge with the leaves or even punch a small hole at the top of each leaf, grab some string, and make a ‘behavior’ garland to put on display!
