Gratitude is the best attitude!
November is National Gratitude Month. That means it’s the perfect time to talk to your kids (or students) about what gratitude is. Having that discussion will open up the conversation to find out what they are grateful for - or if they could use some extra support in discovering what they are grateful for.
What it gratitude?
According to the Oxford Dictionary, gratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Gratitude is a positive emotion. It allows us to focus on what is good in our lives. Gratitude allows us to appreciate everything we have in our lives rather than fixating on what we lack.
We all come from different backgrounds and different experiences. That means we all have different things that we are grateful for. That doesn’t mean one person is more appreciative than another person. Expressing gratitude allows us to train our minds to appreciate the things, or people, in our lives. Finding something to be grateful for can get us through some dark times. It can also make those happy times even more blissful!
Being grateful doesn’t have to be about expressing appreciation for a physical item or person. Did you know you can be grateful for your own growth? It’s not as common to talk about when you ask someone what they are grateful for, but our growth is sure something to appreciate! Don’t you think?
