Martin Luther King Day of Service

Some of the volunteers for Martin Luther King Day of Service. Characters of Character is so appreciative of their serving hearts!

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” Dr. Martin Luther King

Where would we be without a Servant Heart? Volunteers are a huge part of any successful endeavor and our nonprofit is no different. Characters of Character appreciates our volunteers all year long, however, this particular day is one we look forward to. There are nine universities in the Nashville are that come together for a Day of Service and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. Students choose an organization to spend two hours with on this day to learn about the organization and to volunteer their time to fulfill any project(s) that a nonprofit needs support with.

VOLUNTEERS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

We had 20 volunteers who supported our organization. One of the tasks were to autograph one thousand greeting cards from one of the nine Characters of Character. Each card has a Superhero sticker inside and is sealed with a Superhero sticker to close the envelope for the child and then placed inside the Superhero character building activity box.

This year the event was held at the Cal Turner Event Center at Meharry and just like last year, it was wonderful! There were twenty volunteers who came into the room ready to get things done! And get things done, they did! They autographed 1,000 greeting cards which we put into our Superhero Character activity boxes and donate to children’s hospitals. Each greeting card includes a Superhero sticker and is then sealed with a Superhero sticker, ONE THOUSAND COMPLETED! Students also peeled a character sticker to place on the back of a 4 x 4 canvas which reads, I AM SUPER and is included in the activity box. We screen print these in-house and this is time consuming, so to have so many amazing volunteers is beyond appreciated! Check out this video of our special time with the volunteers who came out to help our organization for Martin Luther King Day of Service!

This was another big help for our organization as students peeled a sticker of one of the nine Characters of Character and placed one on the back of a 4 x 4 canvas. The front of the canvas is screenprinted and says, ‘ I AM SUPER’ for the child to color or paint both or one sides of the canvas and then display it on the easel, all of which are included in the Superhero Character building activity box!

VOLUNTEERS ARE THE VERY BEST!!
