National Children’s Dental Month
Did you know that part of having healthy habits is taking care of your smile? Healthy Hippo is one of the nine Characters of Character and reinforces to our children that healthy habits are important. Having a healthy body and a healthy mind are part of building healthy habits. When Miss Joni taught preschool, there was a mom who struggled with getting her son to brush his teeth. She shared that after Healthy Hippo was introduced to the classroom, her son was happy to brush his teeth so he could be like Healthy Hippo! True story!
How Can You Build Healthy Habits and Encourage Your Child to Brush Their Teeth:
First, always be a role model for your child, they watch you, listen to you and model what you say and do
Encourage your child to brush their teeth and floss daily
Allow your child to choose their toothbrushes, there are so many fun ones out there
Choose a toothpaste that your child likes
Replace old toothbrushes, especially after your child has been ill
Create a sticker chart
Take Care of Your Smile!
A child should brush their teeth at least twice a day. Start flossing when your child's teeth touch, which is usually around age 2 or 3 and they should floss daily. Build that smile that could last a lifetime!
